O território que constituía a antiga Índia Portuguesa, e em particular Goa, um espaço complexo, híbrido e difícil de definir e delimitar em fronteiras políticas, linguísticas e socioculturais, distribuía-se por espaços heterotópicos por excelência, sendo um lugar de justaposição, de encontros e de permanências de diversos e sincréticos espaços culturais comuns. As fotografias do Arquitecto João Palla Martins que constam neste livro, uma autêntica cartografia da diáspora indo-portuguesa, representam um tempo instantâneo e permanente de rostos e corpos, entendido como um espaço de confluência e justaposição de vidas experienciadas em lugares tão próximos e simultaneamente tão distantes.

The territory that made up the former Portuguese India, and Goa – a complex, hybrid space that is difficult to define and delimit in political, linguistic and socio-cultural boundaries – in particular, is distributed among heterotopic spaces par excellence, as it is a place of juxtaposition, encounters and permanence of diverse and syncretic common cultural places. João Palla Martins’ photographs in this book, an authentic cartography of the Indo-Portuguese diaspora, represent an instantaneous and permanent time of faces and bodies, understood as a space of confluence and juxtaposition of lives experienced in places so close and at the same time so distant.
