On October 12th, Saturday, from 5pm, the documentary “Heritople” will have its first premiere at Cinematheque Passion, located in Travessa da Paixão, close to the Ruins of St. Pauls.

The trilingual documentary, produced by the International Institute of Macau (IIM) and sponsored by the Macau Foundation and directed by António Salas Sanmarful, includes a series of interviews with Macau citizens, as well as the importance of cultural heritage and their experiences in this territory, where western and eastern cultures intersect. In a city rich in cultural events and festivities of intangible heritage, testimonies were recorded that make us understand the important cultural legacy, and the importance of preserving and continuing this legacy.

The interviews cover testimonies from Ip Tat, president of the Na Tcha Temple Association, Harry Kwah Hou Ieong, president of the Macao Cultural Heritage Reinventing Studies Association, Jorge Rangel, president of the International Institute of Macau (IIM), Matias Lao Hon Pong, president of the Macau Heritage Ambassadors Association, Santos Pinto, owner of “O Santos” Restaurant, Lin Yin Cong, Teacher of Secondary Education and Founder of Júbilo 31 books bookstore, André Lui Chak Keong, Architect and Elisabela Larrea, president of the Macanese Cultural Research Association.

António Sanmarful was born in Macau and obtained his degree in Cinema and Photography in Madrid, Spain. In the professional world, he dedicated 8 years working in video advertising, series, cinema, music videos and documentaries. It was in 2014 that he returned to Macau, starting as a camera technician and gradually becoming Director of Photography. António Sanmarful is currently a freelancer in his field of expertise based in Macau.

“Heritople” was a proposal from IIM to António Sanmarful, with the support of the Macau Foundation, with the collaboration of the Macao Heritage Ambassadors Association for a community project dedicated to the study of Macau's cultural heritage by young people. This documentary was made with the aim of expanding the promotion of the connection between people and local heritage, which will be important for a greater understanding of Macau's cultural legacy, and the harmony of the coexistence of the intersection of East and West.
